A Traitor Amongst Us

In our last adventure of Duality, our good party was well on their way to the nomad city of Alterra. Being that they were nomads, they moved at a very good pace to the city. When they were less than a day away, their scouts had discovered a very stylish caravan making its way back towards Ice Elf territory. A caravan guarded by Ice Elves. Nasus asked the party to intercept the caravan, and capture the one inside. They agreed, and set out to find the caravan.

They hit the caravan, and it quickly became apparent that these Ice Elves had no intention of allowing themselves or the one they were guarding to be captured. They fought valiantly, but were no match for Sir Rohan and his companions.

The Binding in Socket; Medias encounters Crowley

In our last adventure of Duality, the evil party arrives in the village of Socket, just a few hours south from the grand city of Galea. Promptly upon arrival in the village, Velvet ran into a blind sorceress, who seemed to know that Velvet wanted something, and she knew exactly what it was. She told Velvet to meet her at her shack the following morning, and that she would give her all the details then. Medias sensed something was amiss, however, and confronted the sorceress that night.

Turns out, the sorceress was actually Nicodemus in disguise. He would not inform Lord Medias what it was that Velvet wanted. Medias then issued a warning to the demon. “Do not play games with me, Nicodemus.” he said. Medias decided he did not want to wait. He went directly to Galea the next morning.

The rest of the party went to the sorceress’ shack in the morning. The lady told them that in order to provide Velvet with what she needed, she would need a few materials first. Two sets of Tiger’s Fangs, the eye of a Cyclops, and some Troll’s blood. Wasting very little time, the diminished party moved quickly into the forest, searching for the creatures in question.

After a few hours of searching, the party happened upon a sleeping tiger. Ambushing the tiger, they managed to deal some damage, before the tiger’s mate appeared, angry and feral. One of the tiger’s drew Velvet’s blood, a very rare occurrence. However, within a short while, the party managed to fell the two tigers, retrieving the sets of fangs they needed.

Next up was the cyclops. Through an ingenious use of ghost sound, a pair of hobgoblin guards left their cyclops master to fend for himself. The party made short work of the cyclops, and quickly removed his eye. As they were doing so, shortly afterwards they were attacked by the Troll; however the troll also happened to be little challenge for the adventurers.

That night, the adventurers returned to Socket, and provided the sorceress with all the materials she required. Beth was there to assist the sorceress, and to keep Velvet stable. She needed it. That night, with whatever magic the sorceress used, Velvet was struck with lightning bolts, all of various colors. Thanks to Beth’s assistance, however, Velvet survived the night, and bound her own sorceress powers into a tattoo that she now has on her torso.

Meanwhile, en route to Galea, Medias learned that the south road to Galea was being worked on, and would not allow for travelers to get in that way. He had to take a detour through the nearby canyon, onto the west road into Galea. When he arrived at the canyon, his old friend Crowley was waiting there, with several goblins and their dogs waiting in ambush!

With his trusty channel energy ability, he made short work of the goblins and their dogs. Crowley’s plan was foiled, but he left Medias with a warning. He would be waiting for Medias in Galea, with his poison crossbow. Later that day, Medias arrived in the city of Galea. His first night there was spent searching for less than upstanding individuals.

The Slavers

In our last adventure of Duality, the good party was assisting Icegate in preparations for a move. The tribe had decided that they were going to move from Icegate to Alterra, the largest nomadic city on the continent. Sir Rohan and Oskar assisted in defensive plans during the move, and Lilithia and Rex simply helped the villagers pack. It was here that the party met an unusual little girl, by the name of Anna. Anna was strange in the fact that she had a set of golden shaded eyes. The party could tell by her complexion that she wasn’t originally from Arctis Tor. Nasus mentioned that she was an orphan.

A couple hours after the party had been helping Chief Nasus, one of the villagers approached the group and told Nasus that little Anna was missing. They moved quickly to the spot where she had been last seen, and Nasus concluded that she had been kidnapped. It was then that Nasus saw someone who wasn’t who they appeared. A man wearing a cloak, attempting to disguise himself as a villager. Nasus ran after the man, but was hit with Blue Whinnis poison. He was knocked unconscious, but not before he managed to trip the man. The good party quickly surrounded the man, and attacked him. He was quickly subdued, and after a promise by Lilithia to be set free, he told the party that he was a slaver, and that the kidnapping of Anna was just a job. The fact that she had those unusual eyes would fetch a fine price on the slave market. He told the party of the location of the cave, which was confirmed by the villagers.

Meanwhile, Nasus was taken to the medical tent. The local doctor, a young half-elf female by the name of Natalya Hills revealed to the party that Nasus’s condition was not life-threatening, but he was going to remain unconscious for another few hours. She implored the party to go after the girl. They quickly agreed, and set off for the cave that the prisoner described.

As they arrived at the cave, they found two guards standing watch at the mouth of the cave. The party battled with the sentries, however one managed to escape. After their battle with the guards, the party moved on into the cave. It became quite apparent that this cave was well used, and had been for several years. Torches lined the cave walls for lighting, and as they moved through the cave, many crates were stacked atop each other, full of supplies such as blankets, clothes, food, other such necessities. They reached a locked door at the end of the cave, and though it took a few attempts, they managed to knock the door down. Inside the room were three slavers and their dog, waiting for them as they nosily failed to break down the door. The dog was the clear threat; he fought ferociously to the end, however, it was not enough to defeat Sir Rohan and his companions. The man they had allowed to live told them that they were too late. The latest batch of slaves had already been taken to the slave ship. However, a manifest on the table told them of his lies. They had less than an hour to get to the ship before it took off.

The party had arrived just in time. They found the slaver leader, along with three of his men, and the one that had managed to escape, taking Anna personally to the slave ship. The rest of the slaves were already loaded on the ship. The captain, before engaging in a fight with the good party, sent the wounded one to the ship, and told him that if they didn’t show up in a couple minutes to just take off. The man, having already narrowly survived an encounter with the PCs, was only too happy to oblige. Meanwhile, the captain roughly tossed a bound Anna to the side, and drew his short sword, ready for the fight. After a tough battle, the party managed to overcome the threat. However, with his dying breath, the captain chuckled, and showed the party that they were too late for the rest of the slaves, as the ship had taken off.

Lilithia couldn’t accept this, however, and took off at a sprint to the slave ship. With some quick thinking, she sent off a fire spell to burn the sails of the ship, catching the ship on fire and limiting it’s mobility. She screamed out to the shipmates, “Help me up, and I will put out the fires!” and tossed a rope up to the deck. A younger member of the crew, troubled by the events, took the rope in hand against his better judgement. The wounded slaver, however, attempted to rip the rope from the man’s hands. Sir Rohan had reached the boat at this point, and began to quickly climb the rope. The man barely managed to hold on, as Rohan climbed to the top of the boat, even as he was struggling with the slaver. Rohan climbed on deck, and sent a fist into the slaver’s jaw, knocking him unconscious. Lilithia was hoisted up onto the boat, and quickly put out the fires with an ice spell.

The ship’s crew agreed to hand over the slaves on the condition that they not be punished for their actions. Sir Rohan and Lilithia agreed, and Lilithia suggested that in the future, they choose a less nefarious job. They unloaded the slaves, and took them back to Icegate, along with the wounded slaver, and Anna. Nasus was overjoyed, and in order to show his appreciation, gave a Metamagic Rod to the party, and offered to make them all members of the tribe.

Icegate is attacked, and the evil party is lost!

In our last adventure of Duality, the good party successfully returned Rex from the brink of death, and he was cured of Frozen Fever. As he regained consciousness, they discovered that Chief Nasus was getting a ship ready for them to return to Kelton. It was suggested to the party that they get their fortunes told by the local psychic, Madam Adel. She read Rex’s, Lilithia, and Sir Rohan’s fortunes. Then she tried to read Oskar’s. She could not. Even using most of her power, all she could get was a word. “Raijin”.

It was then that they discovered that the village was under attack! The Ice Elves of Arctis Tor found the Nomads and proceeded to slay them mercilessly. Sir Rohan and the others could not sit by and do nothing. They, alongside those who took up arms in the village, drove back the invaders before they could inflict more havoc against the villagers. Chief Nasus, however knew that the worst was yet to come. They could no longer remain at Icegate, as they’ve been discovered. The Ice Elves would soon be back, and in greater numbers. Nasus explains to Rohan that the Ice Elves see the nomadic tribes as a scourge upon the land, and that they must be purged. One of the members of the village arrived, and told Nasus that their ship was ready. Although he tried to convince them that they would be alright, Sir Rohan would have none of that. He decided that he would help them in their struggle.

Meanwhile, Lord Medias and the evil party were en route to the grand city of Galea. Jeff thought he knew a shortcut, and proceeded in getting the party hopelessly lost. The party was lucky to stumble upon a wandering peasant. Or so they thought. The peasant led them through the forest, where the party had an uneasy time keeping their balance. Several times the peasant had to catch them, lest they fall and hurt themselves. Medias was the worst at keeping his balance, and managed to fall over several times.

Finally, after an hour or so of walking, the peasant led the party successfully out of the Celestra Woods, and back to the main road. He then disappeared into the woods, unable to be seen. As the party reached the road, they suddenly began to lose their balance. As Velvet used her detect magic spell, she realized that some form of illusion magic was being used, and it was then that the spell broke. They found themselves on a stairwell, leading downward into a dungeon. They left the dungeon, and found that they were nowhere near a road, simply a clearing in the forest, and they were surrounded on all sides by trees. Velvet then realized that her pack felt strangely lighter. She checked, and found that her spellbook was missing! Determined, she charged into the old temple, with the rest of the party following closely behind.

As they reached the bottom of the stairwell, they were attacked by a group of bugbears! Jeff was using the new maul he took from the dead Roscifer, and a powerful weapon it was. The party made short work of the bugbears, although Velvet was in a foul mood, and made a few bad decisions, including placing herself in considerable danger for a Burning Hands spell. After defeating the bugbears, the party moved on through the temple, and found themselves in an office of the temple, with a desk, a couple bookcases with books that were no longer legible, and a chest in the back of the room. Inside the chest was a wand of Cure Light Wounds, though they were unable to discern the number of charges remaining on it.

Continuing through the temple, the party reached another corridor with a door at the end of it. As they entered the room, they found themselves in a greenhouse room. Lord Medias searched the room, and discovered six goblins waiting for him. However, with a few well placed spells, the party defeated the goblins quickly and quietly. Moving on, they went down another set of stairs, and found a room of worship. Two long rows of pews led to the altar in the center of the room, where they encountered the elf Variel. Variel was a former member of the Judicators, who was forced to retire because he went insane. However, he was still a very formidable enemy, and in his possession was Velvet’s spellbook. At first, the battle with the Elf Magus seemed to be going well, however things changed quickly as Jeff and Beth were caught in a Color Spray spell. Medias did what he could, but he along with Jeff and Beth were enveloped in a very powerful Burning Hands spell.

At the same time, Variel’s ghouls heard the fight going on from upstairs in the temple, and quickly came to aid their master. They arrived just in time to aid their master, who was running in fear of Medias. At the same time, Beth and Jeff were recovering from the Color Spray spell, and engaged the ghouls in combat. However, Variel charged his blade with electrical spell power, and let waves of energy through Jeff, along with a massive sword wound. The fighter fell, unconscious and very near to death. The ghouls managed to paralyze Lord Medias, but not before Velvet was able to get a charm spell off on Variel. This proved to be the turning point in the battle, as Velvet managed to convince Variel not to attack his allies. Velvet and Beth turned their attention to keep Jeff from dying. Velvet took the Cure Light Wounds wand from the paralyzed Medias, and used it once to adequate effect. Jeff was back. The party then quickly dispatched two of the ghouls, however the third one was much more trouble, and managed to paralyze Velvet. Using the last of her strength before she fell into a state of paralysis, she implored the party “not to attack Variel”. Medias took little notice of the request, and as Variel kneeled down to defend his new friend, Medias missed an attack with his scythe. The spell was broken. However, the distraction was just what Jeff needed. Arming himself with a javelin, the fighter sent the weapon flying, and the spear slammed into the side of Variel’s neck. Medias then used his death spell to kill the Elf Magus.

The spoils of the victory was a mithril chain shirt, a masterwork longsword, and of course, Velvet’s spellbook, and the spellbook from the fallen Magus. Inside a chest behind the altar was a bag of gems, and a map, that managed to get the evil party back on track, on the road to Galea.

Rex is Saved

In our last adventure of Duality, the party was on the outskirts of Naskalla. The temperature was too hot for the snow dogs; they had to be left behind. So it was left to Sir Rohan and Oskar to drag the sled that carried Rex for the remainder of the journey. As the party reached the cave entrance to Naskalla, they were attacked by a trio of giant scorpions native to the area. At first, things were looking grim for the party, however with the use of Lilithia’s ice magic, it revealed a weakness in the giant scorpions, who immediately shrunk in size upon coming in contact with the ice blast. Afterwards, the party made short work of the scorpions.

Upon entering the cave entrance, the party was assaulted by a massive wave of nausea. Oskar, Taro, and Rohan were able to overcome the effects, but Lilithia was forced to stay behind for a while to recuperate. She remained with the Snow Dogs, and the rest of the party continued. They traveled through a long corridor, which oddly seemed to get cooler and cooler the farther the party ventured. After a short time, Oskar realized that the party was following a decline. So deep into the earth the party went, and after an hours travel, they finally reached the end of the decline, into a massive central chamber. After another hour of searching, the party finally found what they were looking for. A small room with a ray of sunlight piercing through the ceiling, despite the fact that the party knew it was well into the evening. The large circle where the sun shone was filled with a flowerbed, which seemed miraculous to say the least. The party moved Rex into the light where he could rest, and almost immediately a strange glow began to surround Rex, and sparkles began to dance around his face. Seeing nothing else they could do, the party rested, taking 3 hour watch shifts.

Meanwhile, Lilithia had rested up, shaking off the nausea effect, and decided that she’d try to find the rest of the party. She went through the entrance, passing over the death smell, and traveled down the great decline. It took her the better part of two hours to find the party, but she was just coming at the end of Oskar’s watch. Being fully rested, she decided to take another watch for the party so that they could fully rest as well. Oskar noticed that much of the color had returned to Rex’s face, and the glitter dancing about him seemed few and far between. He was getting better.

Finally, by what the party deciphered as morning, Rex’s treatment was complete. The glitter was non-existant, and the color had completely returned to his face, though he was still unconscious. However, it was at this moment when the party began to hear excited whispering. Suddenly, and without provocation, they were attacked by a trio of small men, cloaked and the only feature the party could discern were long noses. They used poison-soaked blades, and managed to inflict Taro with their poison, but otherwise they were little threat to the party. They decided to allow their attackers to live, and quickly escaped from the room and headed back up the great corridor.

As the party was making their escape, hundreds of the little ones followed, like a stampede, angry that their home had been desecrated, and eager for vengeance. The party was forced to run with all available haste, but they successfully made it out of Naskalla, where the little ones could not follow. The party reached the snow dogs, reattached the sled, and set out back through the Frozen Graveyard.

The journey to Naskalla

In our last adventure of Duality, Sir Rohan has finally awaken from his four days spent in a coma. He finds himself in the village of Icegate, in East Arctis Tor. After surveying the village for a short while, he is directed to the Chieftain’s hut, where he is introduced to Chief Nasus. Nasus was informed of the situation by Oscar, who had been awake for some time, and grieved for the loss of his friend, Pastor Gil. He explained that the good party fell into Chillwater Lake, after the fight with the Yeti. Lillithia and Oscar made it okay, and Sir Rohan was in the coma for four days, but he has recovered. Rex on the other hand contracted a disease native to Arctis Tor called Frozen Fever. It was a disease that Rex’s body could not fight off alone. He needed help.

Chief Nasus reveals to the party that the only known way to cure Rex of Frozen Fever is to take him to the hottest place on the planet, which oddly enough was located in Arctis Tor. That place was called Naskalla, or “Where the sun burns.” Naskalla is the balance for Arctis Tor, the coldest place on Nareth. It is a place where the frozen elements cannot touch, a place of very powerful magic. This magic, this total lack of cold is the environment that Rex needs to fight off this disease. However, the journey to Naskalla was extremely dangerous. Though Naskalla was the balance for the cold temperatures of Arctis Tor, so did Naskalla need a balance of its own. The area between Icegate and Naskalla was what the locals called the Frozen Graveyard, where the low temperatures were extreme. Only the toughest monsters and animals survived in such a place. Sir Rohan was still willing to undertake the journey, however Lillithia was extremely reluctant. Nonetheless, the journey was decided, and the good party set out the next morning towards Naskalla, and the Frozen Graveyard. Nasus supplied them with a guide by the name of Taro. Taro, though a guide for his people, was also a very capable warrior, wielding a greatsword and able to assist the party in any fights they may encounter.

As the good party reached the outskirts of the Frozen Graveyard, they were attacked by a trio of snow wolves, whom they handily defeated. The journey through the Frozen Graveyard was harsh, however, and though Lillithia was okay through most of the journey thanks to her sorceress bloodline, both Oscar and Sir Rohan got a little frostbitten on their journey. Three hours into the journey, a new problem presented itself. A very dangerous Ice Golem made its way to the party and attacked. Though the party managed to defeat the golem, the Golem shattered, and it’s icy shards cut into each member of the party. The first time blood has been drawn from Lillithia. Thanks to Taro’s guidance, the good party had finally made its way through the Frozen Graveyard, and into Naskalla. As they entered the vicinity of the place, the temperature rose almost instantly, from freezing to sweltering hot. A giant volcano rests in front of them. They must get Rex inside before nightfall, which was approaching them fast.

Kelton's Last Hero Has Fallen

In our last adventure of Duality, Lord Medias has been in control of Kelton for a couple of weeks now. During that time, Medias created his own throne room in Kelton Palace. The entire evil party has taken up residence in the manor. Things seem to be going well for Lord Medias. However, things are not as well as they seem. A rebellion of sorts has formed from the ranks of the Town Guard. The man responsible for this was an old war hero by the name of Roscifer, who served in the Town Guard during Kelton’s golden days, and wishes to return to those days of old. The older members of the Town Guard have thus sided with Roscifer in this revolt. However, the current Kelton is the only one the younger members have ever known, and based on the church’s support of Lord Medias, side with him.

Pastor Valle approached Lord Medias and informs him that they are in dire need of the support of the Town Guard if they wish to keep control of Kelton. So, Medias takes matters into his own hands, as usual. He, and the rest of the members of the evil party head to Town Guard headquarters, where they encounter minor resistance at the gates. After a short time, they reach the captain’s office, where Roscifer is holed up. They quickly make short work of the legend, who with his dying breathes, states that Kelton will one day return to it’s days of glory, and that his spirit will live on with the people.

A short while after the battle, Nicodemus in the form of Quinton, reveals himself to talk to Medias. He tells Medias that he should stop being the big fish in the small pond that is Kelton, move on and extend his empire. Starting with Sir Rohan’s hometown of Galea. Medias agreed, and decided to take his forces to the religious gem of the West, Galea.

Meanwhile, up North in Arctis Tor, Sir Rohan was having nightmares of past events while comatose, especially the death of Pastor Gil. He has awakened, however, and found himself in the village of Icegate.

Medias takes control of Kelton

Kelton Falls

In our last adventure of Duality, Nicodemus suggests to Lord Medias that he should not be content with rule of Kelton’s criminal underworld. Instead, he should take full power for himself. Medias agrees, and stages a coup and forces the Kelton Coucil to give up their leadership. As he does, a man reveals himself as Judicator Tomoya, a member of the international police nation of (Country). Though Medias and the party are successfully able to defeat Judicator Tomoya and his men, Medias has committed the gravest of crimes to Judicators; murdering one of their own. As such, Medias has made himself a new enemy, one who will not stop until he is captured or dead.

After Medias defeats Tomoya, all resistance fades from the Kelton Council, and they surrender sovereignty to him. A few weeks pass, during which Pastor Valle has been extremely vocal about his support for Lord Medias’ new rule. However, a resistance group forms within the ranks of the town guard, stemming from a legendary retired guard by the name of Roscifer, willing to fight for the golden days of Kelton. Most of the resistance is full of old men, those who’ve seen better days of Kelton and wish to return to those days of old. The town guard is split in half, those who support Roscifer, and the young men who are loyal to Kelton, mainly because of their loyalty to the church, in other words Pastor Valle.
